Hill City, is a beautiful little town nestled in the central Black Hills of south Dakota It grew out of the mining rush nort from Custer City, Custer County, just about fourteen miles to the south. Spring Creek was dotted with rockers at one time. Palmer Gulch was a rich gold strikein a nearby valley. Towering above the town is Tim Mill Hill where extensive operations were once carried on by a number of successive companies.
With the coming of the railroad ore from Keystone mines funneled through Hill City. It was a prosperous little community at one period in its history.
Its real low point came with the discovery of gold in the northern Hills in the Deadwood area. After the exodus only one man was left. But Deadwood proved less of an opportunity to get rich quick than they hoped. So back they came to the central Hills. Miners went to tigerville, out to the Moon area, ranchers settled in places such as Reynold Prairie ranch. Or perhaps I should have used the word imfamous. Much trade from these people filtered into Hill City.
Many people buried in this cemetery came from these various areas.
Thhis cemetery is located in the SW4 NE$ of Sec 25 T-1-S, R-4-E, B. H. M.
